I went on a blog hiatus and that’s because I’ve been away for a few weeks. Mathew & I just got back from our honeymoon/vacation in Spain. We visited Barcelona and a much smaller town on the ‘countryside’ called Sitges. It was beautiful! This is a quick post to share a few pics from the holiday.

I normally log around with my massive not-so-portable DSLR Canon Camera. But it gets tiring carrying a huge camera and lens around especially when you just want to have fun. This time I ditched it and used my Nokia Lumia 1020. The camera on this phone has been all the rave so I wanted to try it out. I got this phone for such emergencies and I must say it did a great job! 

Day 1

One thing you can say about Barcelona is there is not a shortage of mime acts. I literally ran into one every 5 minutes on The Ramblas. This beautiful turquoise geisha princess was my favourite though. And what a coincidence that I ran into her the next day! LOL. She was in plain clothes, but she still had blue streaks in her hair. We waved at each other…ah, the birth of new friendships…

While Matt was just…mysterious.


Instead of jumping right into the beach action like everyone, I opted to do my favourite thing – EAT. And boy did I eat. I don’t think I’ve had a more delicious meal of Paella before. The restaurant we dined at was called La Litoral which brought back vague memories of Douala 😉

The next evening,  I thought; I packed a few heels. I might as well wear one of them. Hence, the strappy sandals. I missed my feathery slippers though. They are just the most comfortable things. I wore them everywhere, literally. LOL!

Eva Marcille, Brandy, Karrueche, Tracee Ellis Ross and peeps went out for some laughs at Russell Simmons’ live comedy show in Hollywood.

The ladies all looked cute. And all those braids! Now I feel like getting some summer hot braids 🙂

Eva Marcille looked cute in a green turtleneck jumper and matching shorts. Hoop earrings and bright pink lips set her apart from the crowd.

What’s your heritage?

I identify my heritage as being multi-cultural. We all came from the same source. 🙂

What was your hair like before you went natural?

My hair was relaxed and straight up until 2010

Why did you go natural?

When I went natural, I didn’t realize what it meant to “Go natural”. I cut my hair because it looked damaged and unhealthy. Little did I know that there was a whole natural hair community just waiting for me to embrace it, and for it to embrace me.

Did you Big Chop or Transition?

I Big chopped after a one week transition (which I hardly even call a transition Lol ) It was definitely random. But I loved it!

How long have you been natural?

I’ve been natural since May 2010. May 30th will mark my 4 year anniversary of bring natural.


What’s your regimen?

I keep my regimen simple. I shampoo or cleanse my hair with a clay mask once a week, and I co-wash whenever needed. I follow that with a deep conditioner, and seal my hair with coconut oil.


Do you protective style or just let your curls be?

I can say that I hardly ever protective style. I keep my hair free flowing the majority of my days, but I will be protective styling more often.


What are your favourite natural hairstyles?

Buns, updos, and wash and fro’s

Tips to share?

To achieve maximum volume, use an afro pick and pull at the roots. Also get your hair professionally trimmed at least once every 3-6 months to get rid of damaged or spit ends. Make sure to protect your ends with a satin bonnet at night to help retain length, and finger detangle your hair to reduce shedding and breakage from daily or weekly styling.


Have you ever been tempted to relax?

I have never been tempted to relax, thankfully 🙂

Beyonce has been rocking some very long braids lately. The singer sashed her way through the streets of New York in a £45 White Laser Cut PU Detailed Shirt by Rare London and a £39 White Chiffon Laser Cut Skirt still by Rare London. Her new favourite patent nude belt, fierce shades and nude ankle sandals finished off her look. Are you digging it?

Not sure how I feel about this. This could look way better. The styling is a little lacklustre. This is a look for less so we’ll soon be seeing a lot of different versions on Instagrams. I’ll bring you all the different looks when I find some! Hopefully someone redeems this.

Another library and encyclopedia has just been burnt down. Maya Angelou, well-lauded poet, visionary, best-selling author, educator, historian, Pulitzer prize winner and my shero was found dead this morning at her home in Winston-Salem. She is known for her unwitting wisdom and inspiring speeches. She also wrote one of my favourite poems Still I RiseSome famous quotes by Maya are: I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.

One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.
You have left us with so much to remember you by. RIP Maya.

It’s Wednesday and it’s about time I caught up on one of my favourite ABY features, ABY Naturalista! Today Freda Fro shares her natural dos and don’ts.

Tell us about yourself

My name is Alfreda Ashiofu, but most people on the web know me as Freda Fro. I’m 20 yrs old, a health major, and I was born and raised in Nigeria but currently reside in Texas.

What’s your heritage (roots)? 

I’m 100% Nigerian, as far as I know tracing back to several of my “forefathers” lol!


What was your hair like before you went natural?

I was growing it out from my boarding school low cut, and it had been relaxed for a little over three years. My hair however would always come out looking texlaxed no matter the strength of the relaxer or how long it was left on for! However, it was about APL and full before I stopped relaxing.

Why did you go natural?

By accident, I just stopped getting relaxers because of band and cologuard practice, then I cut my hair into a short bob. soon after I washed it after God knows how long!, and I saw curls….I relaxed at a young age, so “natural hair” was a stranger to me at that time.

 Did you go Big Chop or transition?

I unknowingly transitioned, and still big chopped anyways.

How long have you been natural?

2 years and 6 months


What’s your hair regimen or routine?

I co-wash my hair in 6-7 sections using Silkience Silky-Smooth Moisturizing Conditioner, I generally finger detangle, but when I’m in a hurry I use a wide tooth detangling comb. After washing, I dry my hair with a T-shirt, apply the same conditioner I use to co-wash then seal it in with my shea butter mix or crisco shortening. Once a week I deep condition my hair with my diy palm oil mix(recipe can be found on my blog). Every now and then I do test out products for review purposes and end up using a shampoo.


Do you protective style or go with the flow?

I normally create about 20 twists with my hair and wear it for a week or two, then afterwards wear it as a twistout.

Your favourite/go to hair styles?

Flat twist & puff, Cornrow out, twist outs, twists, curlformer sets, and wash n’ go’s.

Any tips or tricks you have to share with readers?

When I shampoo, I like to condition and detangle with a comb first, then apply the shampoo over the conditioner. I find that it saves time as opposed to pre-pooing, and it also prevents the shampoo from stripping the hair of too much moisture.


Have you ever been tempted to relax?

Nope! I hated the relaxed look on me.

Your favourite products or brands

Most of the stuff used on my hair a re DIY, but I do love the Silkience Silky-Smooth Conditioner, a few Pantene products and the Eden Body Works All Natural Deep Conditioner.

Kimye’s team have done a good job of making their wedding trend while still keeping the pictures from the actual event a mystery. Exclusive rights have been granted to E!Online  so until they decide to release the official pictures from Kim Kardashian and Kanye’s wedding, all we’ll be seeing for the next few days are these blurry, heavily zoomed, hazy photographs from the wedding. Leave it to Kimye to torture us 😦 The couple are currently honeymooning in Cork, Ireland.

Let’s take a look at what seemingly happened on 25th May 2014 in Florence, Italy when Kim Kardashian and Kanye West officially tied the knot.  E! have given us  a few teaser photos from the day to oole at. Talk about milking it. Kanye West’s wife looked picture perfect wearing a custom Givenchy Haute Couture gown at their wedding in Florence.



Guests were treated to an Italian feast. The menu consisted of Homemade mezzelune pasta stuffed with ricotta cheese, thyme and marjoram, and monkfish fillet in crust of aromatic herbs on a bed of pureed celeriac millefeuille of tropea, sweet onions and vitelotte potatoes. :/

While we can’t have great quality images of the couple, the guests were snapped looking prim and proper in black tie attire.

 Lala Anthony and Malika Haqq made their way to the wedding festivities in killer black dresses and sleeked tresses.
