101+ Ways To Style Your Dreadlocks

We all know I’m addicted to lists by now.

Blogging is about sharing. So the first thing that pops into my head the minute I stumble upon something is, I HAVE to share this with my readers!

Being on an attempt at a natural journey, it’s no wonder that I have considered dreadlocks as a hairstyle. But then again, I’ve heard, more than a hundred times really, how boring they get after a while. Assuming, you don’t have as much freedom to play with weaves, extensions, relaxed, cropped and all other different hairstyles, some people are bound to feel stuck to wearing the same style every damn time. First of all, almost everyone hates being restricted to the same style over long periods. Second of all, that is entirely false and mythical. I have seen locked sisters rock the most unexpected and innovative styles that make me want to wear my nappy hair in locks. If you are one of those who is running out of ideas on how to wear your dreadlocks or if you want to start keeping them, here’s a post to inspire you. Here’s a tonne of stunning ladies who I just had to make another list about. Let’s get into these warlocked beauties:

Pop Ya Colour

We all know the quickest and easiest way to add some spice to an old style is to dye it! See what these ladies did:

1.

Claire Sulmers of Fashion Bomb Daily has the cutest dreads ever! I love how she made them stand out with the pop of platinum blonde.

Buns are great way to keep locs coiffed and neat especially if you’re dressing up for a special event:) Playing with voluminous buns against neat edges is always fun.

Be brave and try shaving off some sides of your locs. This might be tricky if you are not ready to chop off the rest of your locs when you get tired of rocking the shaved sides. The new short sides might be hard to manage once they start growing out. But if you’re going to stick with the low sides for quite a while, then what’s to stop you?!

  1. I’ve been natural for 3 years. An Afro is my basic style, but I want something different and edgy. So, I’ve been thinking about getting dreads. I love your pics. They’re so inspiring!!!!!! :0)

  2. OMG these pucs inspired me so much and made me proud to be a woman with beautiful locs. Thanks πŸ’‹

  3. This post was just incredible. I didn’t even KNOW that many styles could be done with dreads, but then I was never really taught that you could do things with your locks and I’m not sure I’d even be bothered if I knew (Sometimes I find maintainence of my hair a headache) Soo…. thanks! No more simple ponytails.
I wish some of the images came with instructions though!

    1. Hey GingerSpice, that was an honest error on my part. Not deliberate at all and definitely no discrimination intended. There is one fierce white girl on the post though. Will update the post:)
      thanks for pointing that outπŸ‘ŒπŸ‘ŒπŸŽ†πŸ‘πŸ˜˜

  4. Beautiful styles but what about those of us with short locks????????????????????????????????

  5. Omg!!! Those hairstyles are dope! I have long natural hair and I was thinking about locking it but was afraid because I wanted to do other hairstyles. But I guess I’m locking now.πŸ˜€

  6. I love my locks but I’m run out of style but now I know how should I play with my locks, last week I wanted to cut them but now to cut them its a no no no…

  7. GINGERSPICE said: “100 pics and not one white girl. I guess dreads aren’t for us white girls then :(”

    Error?! Say what?!
No way, MSAIDYL you don’t need to apologize.

Thank you first of all for the collection of beautiful people with beautifully styled hair. I’m always trying to find inspiration and new ideas of how to style my hair (I currently have thick shoulder length locs) and for years I’d do an image search for ‘dreadlocks’ and have to wade through image after image after image of white people with locs before I found someone who looked like me (that specific search still yields similar results to this day). It’s only recently that Google has now categorized the image search for ‘dreadlock styles’ into 1) White Women 2) Braid 3) Wale 4) Weddings 5) White Men 6) Mohawk… sure the majority of images are of black people with styled hair… but that’s the actual listing above…. not even kidding, go check.

This is a fashion blog predominantly about black women, and locs are predominantly worn by black people. You generously included a few men and the one “fierce” white woman, so there is no need to apologize.

  8. I love my locks. I have never been so in love with myself and my hair until I went natural about 7 years ago. I always had really nice thick and strong hair so I did not have a problem locking my hair at all. It is nice to see that so many sisters are now going natural and loving it. I would also like to say thank you to all those involve in promoting and sharing this site.

  9. Hi, my name is Doris & I live in Nigeria. Pls where can I find real appearing dreadlocks? I want something that looks since I don’t want to dread my natural hair. These styles are so inspiring!

    1. The underlying message within the images is to embrace you natural state of hair. Requesting how to get false loc s defeats the point. Hopefully we will progress to stop referring to loc s as dreadloc s

  10. I loved the post,i am looking for ways to style my dreadlocks since i have had a ponytail for ages and this was really helpful:-)

  11. I luv all the pics that i ‘ve seen in this blog . My locs are six months old , i need to be patient for this journey , bt i have hope that one day my locs will be long like the ones that i saw here . Plz keep on posting more pics . I luv this blog

  12. I’m looking to get my hair locked I’m not good @ doing hair on my own so locking it would be best even tho I understand they require maintenance..but I’m good with that I just need a professional to do my starter locks I’m in orange nj..

  13. I am so happy to see so many people having this look that I always love so much…..very much a lover of dreadlocks mine are 3 years old yep……..

  14. Wow! Beautiful women (and one or two guys tooπŸ˜‰ ). I had dreadlocks many years ago and they made my fine caucasian hair thicker. I dyed it dark purple and also red on a few occasions. Lovely post:)

  15. Thank you for this! I am dreading my hair this year. I have been wanting to for awhile. I couldn’t while I was in the military.

  16. This really inspired me. I have been debating locs for years and my excuse is always that I like to change my hai up… Never knew there was so much versatility in locs. Guess I’ll be starting my journey!

  17. I❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️❀️ All the pics and plus there was a white girl there and she was beautiful to.

  18. I’d love to add some of my many styles to your list! Over the past 10 years I’ve had more than I can count… from short to long… from extremely busy to calm, cool and collected…. from party girl to board room poised.

Is there an email I can send them to for your followers to check out???

  19. Hey stylist am jaymo, men those styles ar super hot kindly can u forwad via my email plz am a hairdressa wnt to try them on fiance coz she az locks plz.
