The 98th Annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner just took place and although a few of the looks were pretty standard evening wear, these blew me away.
I still can’t decide which of these is my favourite of the night but because I am slightly (okay, VERY!) biased when it comes to colour, especially pastels, I’d go for Kerry Washington‘s salmon Calvin Klein dress first.
Kerry looked like a million bucks in a Calvin Klein salmon-coloured long sleeve dress. This is one of those dresses that do not need too many accessories because the dress stands out and speaks for itself. I also love how her make-up is minimal and that pulled back hair gives it an overall fresh look. That colour against her skin is just pure goodness. I do not however dig that clutch. Simply because I am not a huge snake print fan and it looks a bit too dull for the dress. But overall, I think Kerry nailed this one.

Despite long hours of research, I have not been able to find the exact dress. But I found something similar, though it’s not much of a save for tgose who want to achieve the look.
The Calvin Klein silk cady gown looks a lot like this salmon wonder. And costs £588 at The Outnet,

Up next on the list is model Irina Shayk. Girl has been known to pull off some really great jumpsuits but this one completely knocked it off the park. Irina showed up looking stunning in a chain detail jumpsuit.

The chain detail on this jumpsuit is to die for. This white stunner was designed by Yves Saint Laurent and costs a whooping £2869.

Even though this is not the exact same clutch Irina Shayk has, I just prefer this similar one because it has got more character.Don’t you think? It’s the Christian Louboutin Marquise Python Clutch, £1303.84  from Saks Fifth Avenue.

Sofia Vergara stunned in a strapless Monique Lhuillier lace LBD. I am literally in love with her Louboutin shoes.

They are similar to another pair of Christian Louboutin pumps from Barneys New York at $895 (£549).

Style Diary brings you the best style muses in the blogosphere. We went to the Philippines once and read Stephanie’s Style Diary. It was so good that we had to just go back once more! What can I say? Filipinos know their Style 101:)  Today we’ll be meeting feisty chic Mariel W whom you probably best know as The Wicked Ying. Let’s get cracking.
Tell us a little about yourself…I’m Mariel W. better known as Wicked Ying in the cyberspace. I’m a 20 something small town girl from the southern part of the Philippines.  I have a day job which is mainly based online. That being said, I have grown to enjoy “blogging” as a past time or merely a break from an all-day work. I recently finished my 365 looks challenge wherein I post outfits on a daily basis. I was able to surpass a year of nonstop blogging about what I call as LOTD or Look of the Day.
Wow. That must have been quite the challenge. What would you say best describes your look?  I don’t have a certain description about my style. I’m all about keeping it simple and comfortable. I can dress up girly to edgy and all else in between. Mostly though, you’ll see me in tank tops and denim shorts and a pair of kicks that I very much love. I basically enjoy dressing up and sharing about my look with the “wicked people”.

All time favourite shops/clothing brands. That would have to be my friend’s shop, PINKaholic. Forever 21 is a favourite too. They have everything….really! Apart from that, I enjoy shopping online from various online shops that I find in Multiply or Facebook.

My beauty secret is? BB Cream. It’s what I use daily. I put it on my face before I dab on powder foundation. It kinda acts as a concealer. And oh, lotion with sunblock is a must too! I never leave the house without using those two. 🙂

Favourite make-up brands. I’m not much of a make up girl. But I use Korean products since they’re known for BB creams. Maybelline, NYX, and Revlon are my go to brands too. My greatest beauty find would have to be what my friend suggested, a brow set from MAC. I’m all about tamed and arched eyebrows. Haha!

What is the most beautiful thing about you ?  That might have to be my skinny legs. I wear shorts all the time so I guess that could translate into me “accentuating” them. Lol! I’m in a love hate relationship with my legs. They’re skinny enough that I don’t fit in most pants but I’ve grown to live with that.

Any insecurities? My uber small feet. That’s my biggest issue. I’m a size 5, maybe smaller. It pisses me off whenever I browse shopping sites that don’t have my size. It’s always size 6 up. How do I deal with it? I stuff corks and gel cushions in my shoes so they fit better. Moreover, I veer from visiting sites that offers US-based products. I know I have no chance finding shoes there. Sad right?!

Sad, especially if you’re a shoe-holic. And you do look like one! Haha. What is your best  music track?  Zero 7’s Destiny. It’s sums up my boyfriend and I’s love story. Lol!

Comment: ‘If you got it, flaunt it’ …  As long as you know what to flaunt and how to do it, why not!

If your life was a movie, what would be its title and who would play you? Well, I’m sure it’s going to be a boring movie! Haha! I don’t have any movie in mind, but I’d gladly let Rooney Mara play as ME! Love her in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movie! 😉

Haha! Your house is in flames, what one item would you save out of your closet and why?  My shoesies? Or maybe my pile of shorts?! I can’t decide! Can’t live without them clothes and shoes! Lol!

Your all time fashion icon is…  Too many to mention but my current fave is Amber Saylor. Lots of cool people at I tell you!

I know right? That place is crawling with style muses! Link us to your blog and site so we can read about all your upcoming challenges.

What’s your advice to young people?  Stop worrying. Enjoy the moment. Life’s too short to live with constraints (and rules)!

Well said. Free spirits rule! Hope you have been inspired by the looks and words of Mariel. We all know she is the Wicked Ying but how bad ass were her looks? Sound off in the comments space below.
Stick around for more style.

The Ghanaian label and London-based Sika Designs recently released their new  S/S 2012 collection named Labyrinth. Since 2006, Phyllis Taylor who is the brain behind the designs has been really consistent  with the kind of designs she puts out. I applaud her genius because each collection she puts out gives us butterflies and gets people talking. African-inspired designs are becoming quite the trend in the diaspora so I am not surprised at the positive reception miss Phyllis is getting.  Sika Designs is  stylish and wearable clothing range collaborating exeptional West African textiles with the trend and styles of London’s urban chic. The Labyrinth Collection has been getting a lot of buzz. In my opinion, I love how she mixes the prints and different textures together. Also I love the name ‘Labyrinth’ but I don’t see how it plays into this collection. Is a labyrinth not supposed to be a maze or something complicated like that? I find some of the pieces to be quite pricey as well. But what can I say, I cannot draw a stick figure to save my life. She earned it. Sika designs is one of the most anticipated African designs on the market. Let’s see how you react to these pieces. Which is your favourite piece? Visit their online boutique here to shop these looks.

Nollywood actress Stephanie Okereke tied the knot on the 21st of April, 2012 to her fiancée Linus Idahosa in Paris, France. Linus Idahosa is a media consultant and the CEO of Del York International. For the 30-year old actress, this is her second trip down the aisle. Her first attempt with footballer Chikelue Iloanusi obviously did not go so well.
This time around, Stephanie was keen on hitting every nail on the head. From the lavish ceremony to the dreamy venue; I’d say Stephanie has definitely set the bar very high for others to follow suit.
The press release which they sent out to announce their wedding date describes the event in a few words.
“The sunny-faced multiple award winning actress, Stephanie Okereke, will be getting married to her heartthrob, PR genius, Linus Idahosa in far-away France, sharing vows in front of family, friends and colleagues. The ceremony which undoubtedly is the most anticipated wedding in the country will hold in a 17th century Parisian Castle reserved for royalties this Saturday, April 21. It is rumoured that the new couple wish for guests to receive a unique kind of ‘touch’ from the experience. The wedding will be a very private affair, celebrating the couple’s love, respect, admiration and appreciation for each other. “
From the look of things, I’d say Steph and Linus were aiming for a vintage feel, Prince-rescues-Princess-from castle, royal kind of wedding. And who can blame them?? I am absolutely in love with the venue! Needless to state that I have saved the address of that Parisian castle for future purposes.
the venue in Paris

Gold-embossed invitation cards were sent out to distinctive guests which read:
‘Stephanie Okereke and Linus Idahosa, together with their parents Mr and Mrs Chima Okereke/ Mr and Mrs Linus Ogbomon,  request the honour of your presence at their marriage, on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 3pm
Venue: Abbaye Des Vaulx De Cernay 78720 Cernay La Ville, Paris
Colour code: Burgundy, Ivory & Gold
Arik Air which was reportedly named the official airline for the wedding played a major role in transporting guests to and from Nigeria to France. Air France is also rumored to sponsor the couple’s honeymoon trip to any destination of their choice.
To top it off, Stephanie’s bridal gown was made by the one and only Elie Saab. Yes, you heard that right. Elie Saab, people! Elie Saab wedding dresses price range usually fall between £3000-£4000. Go figure.
Sponsored trips, wedding in a castle, a handsome prince and designer dresses. What more can a girl ask for? Abi, make we swallow spit look picture di wait for our turn to come.
Watch Stephanie and Linus take their vows in this exclusive video. This is pure fairy tale material.

Ini Edo, Genevieve Nnaji, Liz Benson and Kanayo O. Kanayo were amongst guests

I have not posted anything under this segment because I am especially particular about pictures and shoots. This segment focuses on designs and photo shoots. I get inspired by them and by posting these finds, I hope someone discovers a muse in them too.
Today’s Afric’Art is the stunning Ataui Deng. She was originally born in Sudan but moved to Texas. She is 180cm (God, I am still hoping please…) and in case you notice any resemblances, yes, she is the niece of the famous Alek Wek.
I am in love with this photo shoot of Ataui by Guilia Noni.

This is simply breathtaking. Stay tuned for more posts on fashion trends and style.

Our Style Diary guest today describes her personality as ‘short n chiq.’ Well, I’ll add fierce ‘n’ feisty to that. Let’s see if you agree.
Meet Zahra…My name is Zahra Davis and I’m 24. I recently moved to LA from MD to go to the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) and now I’m currently a visual merchandiser for American Apparel. I’m an extreme Virgo. I have a creative mind and love relishing in anything fashion.

What would you say best describes your dressing style? My style reflects my mood and my personality. I like to try different silhouettes, colors, and overall styles, but I always put my own flare or touch to it. I like to show off my curves but not in an overt way. I love high fashion and couture, but Im more inspired by street style because its more tangible. Style is so personal and I love observing how other people put things together. It can give me a grasp of what kind of person they may be, since style should be a reflection of who you are.

All time favourite shops and clothing brands would be… Urban Outfitters, Nasty Gal and Jeffrey Campbell.

OK, you are literally GLOWING. What is your beauty secret? Its important for me to take care of my skin. So I have a nightly face cleansing regiment. I use Neutrogena Grapefruit Cleanser, Acne Wash, Toner, and Moisturizer. I try to drink water to maintain healthy skin. I’m also obsessed with mascara! I use 3 different brands: Covergirl lash blast to bring out the lashes, Maybelline Falsies for length, and MAC Zoon Lash for added volume.

What brand produces your favourite make-up? The majority of my make-up is MAC.

What is the most beautiful thing about you and how do you accentuate it? This is a tough/awkward question for me, lol. I don’t really know what the most beautiful thing is about me. A lot of people have complimented me on my nose. I actually like my legs, so I like to wear short and/or fitted bottoms that show them off.

If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, with whom would it be and why? JUNE AMBROSE!! She’s definitely someone I look up to. I want to be able to be successful doing something that I love, just like her.

Your favourite music track would be…? Hm, I have a lot of songs that I like so it’s hard to pick one!

If your life was a movie, what would be its title and who would play you? It would be called “I’m My Own Worst Enemy” and my older sister would play me (She’s an actress.)

Lol, I love that title. What would I find in your handbag right now? Wallet, Lip Gloss, Lipstick, Eye Liner, Keys, Purrell, Phone.

Your house is in flames, what one item would you save out of your closet and why? Ahhh!! I have no clue. That’s like asking which child would you save if you had to choose! haha. It would either be this Rolling Stone cropped sweater I got from Urban or my Jeffrey Campbell Litas. Those are both my favorite items that I own right now and I wear both all the time!

Your all time fashion icon is… That’s tough. I don’t really have a favorite fashion icon but I have style muses. Right now I love Solonge Knowles style, Rita Ora, and Vashtie Kola. I think my style is kind of a mix of all three.

Your favourite quote. ” When another door closes, another will open.” I’m a firm believer in fate and that everything happens for a reason.

Do you have any blog or URL where we read more about you?
Check out my tumblr to see more of what inspires me at
and follow me on twitter @shortnchiq .

What’s your advice to young people? My advice is to never second guess yourself and don’t stand in your own way. I don’t like to regret things, but when I was younger I would always be my own worst enemy and be super hard on myself ( actually still am) but that would really hold me back from opportunities that I wish I had taken. Don’t let yourself or anyone get in the way of your destiny. Take control of your life and dreams. (I need to follow my own advice! LOL) .

Valuable words of wisdom, those are. Thanks for doing this Style Diary, Zahra. You are awesome and original. We’ll definitely be seeing more of you.
What do you make of Zahra’s diary? Remember you can send yours to Meanwhile stick around for more.
Peace n Love:)

It is hard not to notice the new stunning prints that are taking over the high streets. Yes, many fashionistas are giving the colour-block craze some time off and welcoming with wide open arms the new scarf print. The scarf print is basically the conventional scarf design being used on a wider variety of clothing items and outerwear. Big names in fashion such as Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, and Chanel have introduced outstanding pieces in the collection that showcase the versatility of this scarf print design.

Celebs such as Beyonce, Jessie J and Rihanna have been spotted out and about rocking the print. I sometimes wonder if this print is trending because it is actually a very stylish trend or just because celebs are wearing it. What do you think?
