A Piece of Africa on the Beach

‘I have this great idea that no one has come up with yet. Create a swimwear that would (not only preserve my dignity but) preserve my cultural heritage and showcase my rich and colourful background…’ This has been a recurring train of thought on my mind until alas, some talented designer not only read my mind and stole my ideas, but they executed it pretty perfect as well. Let’s face it, I can’t draw a stick figure to rescue my kidnapped family, let alone sew. So there was no way I was going to make this idea come to fruition.
Designers like Aya Morrison and Bantu Wax are creating amazing swimwear looks that will revolutionize black women on the beach. Their beautiful ankara swimwear and bikini creations are just a sight to behold. If you plan on hitting the beach this summer, here are a few looks to inspire you. Hey, at least you can get the tailor around the corner to create something similar for you!

Visit Aya Morrison to shop the ankara swimwear.
